All beef has zinc, iron and B-vitamins but Grass Fed Beef also has elevated levels of Omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)
Grain-fed beef may sound healthy but its quite the opposite. Since cattle cannot tolerate ingestion of only grain, they need antibiotics regularly. Being that these antibiotics are not fully digested by the animal they end up in the beef at the consumers table. To achieve the natural and clean flavor of grass fed beef, cattle must be raised free range on natural clean pasture. Healthy animals provide healthy food for people as they contain no hormones, no antibiotics and no animal by-products. Free range cattle live normal stress free lives and are harvested when they are naturally ready. Today, the overwhelming percentage of beef sold in the US is grain fed. The reason for this is simple, grain fed (feed lot) cattle gain weight twice as fast as free range (grass fed) cattle. The practice of feeding cattle grain in confined spaces has dramatic consequences to the animal in both it’s health and the flavor profile of beef. |
